Welcome to Cherry Class. We are 31 brilliant children taught by Miss Woods and Mrs Edgeley. Our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Fletcher. On Wednesday mornings we are taught by Mrs Nicholls, who covers Miss Woods and Mrs Edgeleys SENDCO and PPA Time. Each week we aim to update this page to give you an overview of our learning journey.
PE days are on Tuesday and Thursdays this term - Please ensure PE kits are in school on this day, labelled clearly and that no jewellery is worn.
Mrs Edgeley, Miss Woods and Mrs Fletcher are really proud of how well the children are settling into the school routines. Starting school can be a daunting experience and it can take time for some to find their feet but they are trying so hard to make new friends and learn. A focus at home for the Reception children would be to encourage their independence and listening skills by allowing them to dress and eat (using a knife and fork) as independently as possible, independence and good listening is key to a successful start into Reception.
This week in our topic we have been making a collage of the story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. The children have enjoyed making maps of the story using a variety of different craft materials. We have also focused this week on our golden rule ‘We Are Kind, We Don’t Hurt Others,’ we talked about the importance of being kind to our friends and having helpful hands instead of hurtful hands.
This week in Literacy Reception have been exploring different elements of the Bear Hunt story. They have explored fake snow and oozy mud with sticks. They reinacted the story using dolls and had a great time retelling the story using some of the words. Year 1 have been thinking of their own alternative versions of the story, some of the children thought of a city with beeping cars and a beach with splashy, sploshy water! It was amazing to hear all of their imaginative ideas!
This week in Numeracy Reception have been focussing on the numbers 1,2,3,4 and 5. We have watched the CBeebies Numberblocks series and we have also been exploring number in a variety of different ways. Next week will shall be making assessments of the children’s knowledge about number. Year 1s
This week in Phonics Reception have been taking part in a dough disco. This is to help their fingers develop so they are able to successfully hold a pencil. They have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the dough disco and funky finger activities. Next week the children will begin to make marks using a pencil. It is important that correct holding of a pencil is also encouraged at home (pincer grip). Year 1 have been busy practising writing and reading previously learnt sounds. Continual practise of these sounds at home is crucial as it prepares them well for near future writing and reading challenges and activities.
Reception parents/carers please note- If you are struggling to access Tapestry from home or need to provide your email address for access, please do not hesitate to ask Miss Woods or Mrs Edgeley for assistance. Tapestry is an amazing website where you can see what your child has learnt at school and it also encourages your child to learn when accessing the website together.
