This week in our Science we have been looking closely at the season Autumn. The children took part in an Autumn scavenger hunt around the school grounds they were provided with a tick list to see if they could spot any of the common features of Autumn. Year 1 did some beautiful observational drawings of leaves and played close attention to detail.
In our Topic we learnt about Remembrance and why it is important. The children made collage poppies, hand poppies and remembrance ribbons.
In Literacy this week we continued our learning about rhyme. We read the story What the Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson, Year 1 looked closely at the book finding the words that rhymed and Reception drew their own What the Ladybird Heard maps. They were super! Miss Woods was impressed at how hard Reception tried to label their maps.
In Numeracy this week we learnt about number bonds to 10. We used dinosaurs, animals and teddies to find the different number bonds to 10 and we also played a really fun whiteboard game called Save the Whale. Year 1 are really coming along with their quick recall of number bonds
In Phonics Reception learnt the new high frequency words I, no, go, to, the, into and we also learnt how to write the sound g. Year 1 learnt how to read CVCC words and the sight words said and so. Another group in Phonics learnt the sight words oh, their and people and their also learnt the new sound ie.
This week in our Science we have been learning about the different seasons. We talked about what we need to wear during the different seasons and what happens to the temperature and the trees. The children drew different clothes that we would wear for winter and summer and we also painted season trees using cotton buds.
In our Topic we learnt about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. The children were fascinated with the story and were eager to take part in our child initiated learning. We made firework pictures using black paper and chalks and we even made our own Guy Fawkes out of pipe cleaners and beads.
In Literacy this week we learnt about words that rhyme. We discovered that in order for a word to rhyme, it must sound similar at the end. The children listened to the story This is the Bear and took part in rhyming games.
In Numeracy this week we learnt about the properties of 2D shapes. We sung the guess the shape song and also took part in sorting activities.
In Phonics Reception learnt the new sound m they also had a go at reading cvc words e.g. pat, mat and pin. Year 1 learnt the new sounds ai and ow.
