On Thursday 19th October the Road Safety Officer, Kay Taman, came in to school to teach Oak class all about road safety. We all had to wear high viz jackets to make sure we could be seen clearly.
We learned about not getting into cars from the roadside, only from the pavement, also not crossing the road diagonally but instead in a straight line, as it takes less steps. We also learned about the kerb, and not to wear a hood up when crossing the road as it restricts your eyes and ears. The children were also told to check every driveway when walking on the pavement, to listen and look all around when crossing the road and not just left and right. and also to hold your grownups hand at all times, plus much more.
Thank you to Finlays mum, Laiths mum, Kathryns mum and Owens dad for giving up your time to help us. We cannot have experiences like this without volunteers, so all your help is very much appreciated.
Thank you to everybody that was able to join us on Friday 13th October for our Harvest Festival. The children all sang beautifully.
In Numeracy this week Oak class has been learning about measuring length and height. We decided to find out who was the tallest and shortest child in the class. It took a while to make the line because some of the children are almost the same height. It is fun to make a height chart at home.
In Science we were very lucky to have the opportunity to explore Mrs Barnes' car. We were discovering which materials had been used to build the car, such as metal, glass, plastic, rubber, etc.
We loved the hands on experience, maybe your child could show you at home what they have learnt?
On Wednesday 27th September we went into the hall to do some big maths activities. Lots of the traditional games like dominoes and matching pairscan be played at home and are very beneficial.
Our topic in RE this term is visiting a Christian Church. On Wednesday 27th September we visited St Johns Church in Weston Hills to look at the things you would find in a church. Thank you to all the adults that gave us their time to come on the walk with us.
A huge thank you to Louis and his Mummy for making Oak class this amazing teddy cake. We are very grateful!
In Numeracy we are looking at groups of 2, 5 and 10 and we are also making 2-digit numbers. We love getting the Maths equipment out to help us learn!
On Thursday 14th September during our Science lesson we have been thinking about how to keep 'Teddy' dry if he is caught in a shower. We tested lots of materials and there were some surprises. We then wrote up our experiments afterwards. Louis was a brave volunteer to test Mrs Barnes' jacket, he was completely dry except for the bottom of his trousers. Please take a look at our photos.
On Wednesday 13th September we dressed up as characters from Roald Dahl books to raise money for poorly children. Don't we look fantastic!
