Thank you to all the parents who came to have a catch up chat with me about how your child has settled in. I had been lucky enough to talk to a number of parents before the two evenings as I always like to nip any concerns in the bud. Please remember that I am available at the end of the school day for brief chats or to make an appointment for a longer chat. It is great when we can work together to ensure the very best for your child.
We hope you will be able to join us on Wednesday for our Harvest Festival. As you know from our homework, we are presenting a poem so do come watch us perform it to everyone.
We have had two more class members achieve their silver ceryificates this week- well done Henry and Gabrielle! Who will be next?
We have had another class member busy making at home- well done!
Super Plasticene Model Making
Look at our Shaun the Sheep models! Such detail. Don't forget, parents/carers are always very welcome to come into class at the end of the day to look at our displays.
The School's First SILVER Mathletics certificate...
...was given out to Lily this week! Amazing! Lily has managed to score over 1000 points for the past 5 points- well done!
Cross Country Tuesday 4th October
Please do not forget that all of Years 3 and 4 will be attending the Cross Country Competition in Spalding. Outside trainers are a necessity, children will not be allowed to run in plimsols or normal school shoes. We will leave at 9.30 and return by 1pm, ready for afternoon learning.
The children started to use an animation app this week to create short film clips using the plasticene. We have been using Animate It which can be bought from the Apple app store (the Lite version is free). I Can Animate is another app which is virtually the same. There are animation apps available for android users that work in a similar way that are very easy to use so have a look!
Topic Linked Websites:
All three of these websites have lots of information linked to our class animation topic as well as activities to try and online fun- have a look!
Negative Number Games- Thursday
We have had lots of different maps, atlases and globes out spotting different countries and different map features such as the Equator, the Tropic of Cancer/Capricorn and Arctic/Antarctic Circles. We were full of chat and questions during our learning, fascinated about the world around us!
A good way to follow this session up at home is to play about online with Google Earth- a brilliant programme!
Today we had a go at making an old fashioned water compass by magnetising a needle and laying it on top of a small dish of water.
It has been great to see many children get involved at home with the history of animation by making flick books and thaumatropes. It was unfortunate that some of the children have not been doing their homework as they had nothing to share although the other children were very keen to allow others to play with what they had made.
It does benefit children to take time to do their homework, especially reading, times tables and spellings. It can be seen in class the huge difference it makes to those that do continue their love of learning outside of school.
Tuesday's Maths Games (20th Sept)- Ordering numbers using Place Value

Look what Thomas found in the grass today...
To start off our Aardman topic work, we have been focusing on what makes a good story character. We have been thinking of as many good adjectives and descriptive phrases as we can to describe what characters look like and some of their behaviour traits.
After planning our own investigation yesterday to find out if the surface makes a difference to how far an object can travel, some of our groups have been investigating toda.
Our Fabulous Times Tables Songs.
